OUTREACHES
Winter Warmth 2017
It was a cold Friday afternoon church members and friends gathered to prepare a hot meal, and organize the donated blankets and winter clothing for people living on the street. There is always a sense of anticipation and not knowing who or what we will meet out there. We could only imagine the stories will be. All we know is to go out there as servants of the Lord, remembering his call to feed the hungry, visit the sick and know that he is present in all who are destitute (Matthew 25:31 – 46). It is truly heartwarming to see how a little care and attention can touch a person’s life and give those in need a taste of the salvation promised.
Conflict resolution Program 2017
We were most fortunate, to have the Funda’zoPhila Foundation share with us insights and work on reducing conflict and fostering social tolerance and respect. From time to time we hear in the news how important it is for all South Africans to support social cohesion; and we think this programme is a real contribution to just that. Around 40 of our members participated and of course, most of them were children and teenagers. We had a motivational presentation on how to address bullying and conflict amongst our friends and people who go to the same school as us. We also played that the Bully Boogie Challenge board game, that helped us understand the problem of the violent culture of conflict in our schools and community. The game also helped us as children and adults come up with creative conflict avoidance and management ways.
